Question #1 for Hjort " Themes of Nation"

1. Hjort presents two distinct objections to the notion of classifying nation as a topical theme. What are they? And in what ways do the two different objections differ from each other?

Hjort presents two reasons why nations should not be classified as a topical theme: themes of nations may be mobilized and film makers don't want to produce art within narrow parameters. Hjort suggests that the theme of nation is typically a false belief created by the individual; therefore, the theme of nation is highly subject to vary and holds little claim to national identity. The second opposition comes from the creative rather than the practical angle. Hjort mentions Danish film-makers, and he says that they will not make films solely based on Danish theme. Focusing on the theme of one's own nation becomes a rather dull art. Perennial themes that cross cultures and borders create grounds for a more entertaining product.
